Once two monkeys

came together and said:

"Let us brave the elements."

"Let us build a home."

 

Then the two monkeys

went their separate ways.

Alike in temperament, 

different in tone.

 

One held a thorn,

and the next minute bled.

and rendezvoused to forge a pact

alone.

 

And he bled,

and bled,

and bled,

until he was no more.

 

The other monkey came by,

and saw the corpse.

On the floor were nine words in red:

"Go be happy. 

The blame is mine.

Not yours."
